SHILLONG: In compliance with the Supreme Court ruling, the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) on Thursday held a discussion to work out the possibilities of registering all the missing reports of children in the State.
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, MSLSA member secretary N Khan informed that a team of Para Legal Volunteers (PLV), in close co-ordination with the State Police, has been put into practice to find out all the missing reports and register cases.
“The order has been enacted by the apex court under the Bachpan Bachao Andolan,” Khan informed adding, “an FIR has to be lodged which would be acted upon under Section 154 of CrPC. PLVs will be assisting the police in tracking, locating the families and rescuing the missing child.”
He also informed that two PLVs would be enrolled by the MSLSA in every police station, who will be working on shift basis.
“PLVs will come in handy in communicating with the missing families as many people are not open to police,” Khan informed, adding, “There are many missing reports which do not come to the light. Enrolling PLVs will help in creating a friendly atmosphere with both the parties which can help in investigation and get to the roots.”
Asked for statistics on missing reports in the State, he said, “Both the police and PLVs are working on it.”
“Any reports of missing children will be reported to us (MSLSA) by the PLVs and we will be sending the report to the National Legal Services Authority.”
