SHILLONG: Several NGOs here on Friday demanded a CBI inquiry into the custodial death of under trial prisoner (UTP) Balsan Marak who died in Tura Civil Hospital recently.

Speaking to media persons, Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) member Angela Rangad said that a CBI probe should be ordered into the incident instead of a magisterial inquiry.

Rangad also demanded that Home Minsiter Roshan Wajri should also step down for choosing to keep mum over the entire episode. She also called for the immediate removal of the West Garo Hills SP and Additional SP.

Rangad alleged that there have been several cases of illegal detainment resulting in the death of many people in police custody in the State. “Police must follow all provisions of law while dealing with an arrested person,” she said.

CSWO general secretary Evangeline Thabah slammed Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for allegedly not taking any action against the accused cops.
