SHILLONG: The mother of under trial prisoner Balsan Marak who died in custody filed a case against police on Saturday.
Meena S Marak lodged the complaint at Tura police station seeking detailed investigation into the death of her son.
Meanwhile, the NPP slammed West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi for denying the post-mortem report to the relatives of Marak.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, NPP spokesperson James Sangma said that it was unfortunate that the district administration of West Garo Hills has denied the postmortem report to the parents of late Marak who was allegedly killed in police custody.
The party alleged that lack of transparency and intentional delay in making known the details indicate that there is a move to cover-up the incident.
“The parents of Marak and the people of Garo hills have every right to know what caused his death,” Sangma said adding that the post-mortem report should be made public.
The NPP demanded that a judicial probe be constituted headed either by a sitting or retired High Court Judge.
“We also reiterate that all the officers involved in this incident should be immediately removed from their posts paving the way for a free and fair investigation,” Sangma added.
