Ri Bhoi Police seize huge consignment of banned drug

NONGPOH: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking through NH 40, Byrnihat Police seized a huge consignment of the banned Phensedyl and arrested two persons at Byrnihat in the wee hour of Tuesday around 1:30 am.

Ri Bhoi Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), R. Pde, informed that on receiving appropriate information on the transportation of huge consignment of drugs through National Highway 40 from West Bengal, the Byrnihat Police conducted checking of vehicles plying through the highway and during the checking the Police managed to recovered over 1100 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup worth over Rs. 1.05 lakh.

Pde also informed that the the drugs had been concealed in a customized compartment constructed under the vehicle which would have gone undetected had the police team not used their wits.

The duo was identified as Gautum Roy (32) from Dhaladil Colony in Tripura and Santosh Das (27) from Rani Bazar, Tripura. The drugs consignment were packed in West Bengal and was meant to be transported to Agartala
