New Delhi: Slamming Congress for taking a swipe at HRD Minister Smriti Irani’s educational qualification, BJP on Wednesday said Congress leaders should leave their “arrogance” behind after the party’s defeat in the Lok Sabha polls and introspect.
“We want to advise Congress leaders that after country’s people rejected them in Lok Sabha elections, they should now leave their arrogance behind and introspect,” BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.
He said the party was defeated in elections due to the “arrogance” of Congress leaders but they are still not ready to leave their arrogance. “Congress leaders should now stop using abusive words against BJP leaders. Congress should respect the mandate of the people,” he said.
Another BJP leader Santosh Gangwar said he wants to ask Congress how educated was its president Sonia Gandhi. “I want to ask Congress how educated is Sonia Gandhi,” Gangwar said.
Congress leader Ajay Maken on Tuesday took a jibe at Irani’s educational qualification. “What a Cabinet of Modi? HRD Minister (looking after education) Smriti Irani is not even a graduate! Look at her affidavit at ECI site pg 11,” he had tweeted on Tuesday.
Uma questions educational qualification of Sonia Gandhi
Hitting back at Congress for taking a jibe at HRD Minister Smriti Irani’s educational qualification, Union Minister Uma Bharti on Wednesday questioned the educational qualification of its party president Sonia Gandhi.
“I want to ask Sonia Gandhi what is her qualification because she was heading the UPA Government, she was giving directions to the Government. I want to see her certificate how much she is qualified. Then Congress people have the right to ask the qualifications of Smriti Irani,” she said.
Bharti was speaking to reporters after taking over as the as the Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation here.
The Minister’s comments comes a day after Congress took pot-shots at the new government, saying its HRD Minister Irani was “not even a graduate”.
Bharti said she was “extremely hurt” by the qualification remarks of Congress. “I was extremely hurt… I was suffering from fever yesterday. So, I read newspaper today and I saw that,” the Minister stated.
Congress leader Ajay Maken had tweeted yesterday: “What a Cabinet of Modi? HRD Minister (Looking after Education) Smriti Irani is not even a graduate! Look at her affidavit at ECI”. (PTI)
