MLAs elected as MPs yet to file resignation in Assembly

Jaipur:  The Rajasthan Assembly has far not received resignations from any of the four MLAs who were elected as MPs in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha polls, its Speaker on Wednesday said. “Assembly has not received so far any resignation of four BJP MLAs who were elected as MPs in Lok Sabha polls, though there is time limit of 14 days after results for the elected members to retain one out of two memberships in either of the houses”, Assembly Speaker Kailash Meghwal told reporters. Of BJP’s four MLAs, Sanwarlal Jat was elected as MP from Ajmer, Santosh Ahlawat from Jhunjhunu, Om Birla from Kota and Bahadur Koli from Bharatpur LS seats. If any one of them opt to retain LS seat, he or she has to tender resignation from the state assembly seat within 14 days of the results. In case the elected MP does not give up assembly seat won earlier, he/she would lose the MP seat, according to the assembly sources. The Lok Sabha results were declared on May 16. (PTI)

Postal stamps on Narendra Modi issued in Bihar

Patna: A set of four postal stamps and a special cover on Prime Minister Narendra Modi conceptualised by a philatelist from Bihar has been issued by the Department of Posts (DoP). “I conceptualised the stamps and special cover to mark the ascendancy of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India. It was a popular event and not only our own country but the entire world was watching it with keen interest. The DoP issued it under ‘My Stamp’ series on May 26, the day he took oath,” philatelist Pradeep Jain said. The set of four stamps with a face value of Rs 5 each shows a smiling Modi in four different poses, covered with petals of flowers like Lily, Pansy and Dahlia. The cover depicts a smiling Modi emerging from a fully blossomed lotus. The famous Navkar Mantra of the Jains is printed on the cover, which is titled ‘The Power of Namo’. The stamps and the cover were taken to Delhi by a senior Bihar BJP leader and presented to Modi and BJP President Rajnath Singh. (PTI)

Will comment on Modi govt after six months: Akhilesh

Jaunpur (UP): The Samajwadi Party will wait and watch the Narendra Modi government’s performance in the next six months, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said. “I will comment on Modi after six months. Let us see his performance in this period”, Yadav told reporters. Yadav was here to pay tributes to party leader Satairam Yadav, who died in an accident on May 19. On the issue of corruption, Akhilesh said that his government was acting on such complaints and taking action against those involved in it. On power crisis in the state, Akhilesh accepted that he knew that only eight to 10 hours power supply was being done in districts due to poor condition of power stations and lines. “We will deal with the problem by 2016 and the work in this regard is going on in full swing”, he said. Asked about party’s poor performance, Akhilesh said that party president Mulayam Singh Yadav was reviewing the results. (PTI)

‘Mahila Desks’ at few city police stations in a shambles: NGO

Jaipur: Women’s Desk at some police stations here were not only in a shambles but also lacked technical and legal skills to tackle crime against women, an NGO has claimed. Mahila and Jansangathan annexed with People’s Union for Civil Liberty (PUCL), has also made a representation in this regard which was submitted to the Jaipur Police Commissioner. “Every Mahila Desk in Jaipur-South’s 13 police stations showed callousness and utter carelessness in dealing crime cases against women”, Renuka Pamecha, its convener and noted women social activist, told reporters here. Regardless of a minimum two to three women constable in each police stations, there were men cops holding just the charge of Mahila Desk, she said, quoting a survey by 48 trainee students of law colleges and university across the country. Infrastructure and other facilities like toilets, separate office room for complainants did not exist, she claimed. Most of these stations were not keeping any record of either plaints or FIRs, she further alleged. In their representation to the Commissioner, PUCL has demanded that these Mahila Desks be strengthened at least with three women cops, a separate room, and legal training to the staff besides appointment of a Protection Officer in each police station, she added.
