Police highhandedness comes to fore

SHILLONG: At a time when the State police is fighting for respect after the two custodial deaths in Garo Hills, another case of police harassment has been reported from Bajengdoba.

It was reported that on May 24 around 10:30 pm, one Pronish Sangma along with two of his friends were returning from a clan (Mahari) meeting on a motorcycle.

On reaching Boro Gokul village in West Garo Hills, they were chased by Police personnel from Rari OGC and were beaten up.

During the course of the incident, Pronish Sangma and his friends sustained serious injuries and one of them identified as Simon Marak was admitted at Goalpara Civil Hospital, Assam. A police complaint in this regard has been lodged at Bajengdoba police Station.
