ARF, UALA warn joint action

TURA: The A’chik Revolutionary Front (ARF) has condemned the twin custodial deaths in an emergency meeting held at its Headquarters in Grongkam.

The outfit demanded the constitution of a Central Level Inquiry either by NIA or CBI as well as a compensation to the tune of Rs 1 crore to the families of both the victims.

“We pray for unity among the A’chik Society and the residents of Garo Hills in this time of need,” the Secretary of Information and Public Relations of the outfit, Lieutenant Chugrim Marak said in a statement.

While Balsan Marak died in judicial custodyon May 20, Witson M Sangma who was arrested for his alleged involvement with the GNLA died in police custody on Wednesday at Chokpot.

The Chairman of UALA, Chiindik Marak along with the ARF gave an ultimatum of three days to the government to act failing which the leaders warned of joint action for which the government would be held responsible. The militant leaders of the two outfits demanded the immediate suspension and arrests of all police officials involved in their deaths.
