NONGPOH: Just days after a high-level meet between Meghalaya and Assam officials, a fresh case of encroachment by Assam government in Meghalaya territory in the form of a check gate has come to light.

On Tuesday evening the Assam Sales Tax Department set up a check gate at Jorabat area falling under Ri Bhoi District. On receiving information of the illegal move by Assam officials, Byrnihat Police swung into action and rushed to the spot and instructed the Assam Sales Tax officials to wind up their establishment but met with stiff resistance.

It was finally after the Byrnihat Police personnel threatened to seize the check gate that the Assam officials returned back to Guwahati.
