Celebrations elsewhere across Meghalaya

The NSS unit of Christian Academy celebrated World Environment Day on Thursday at Nongrah Dong Nongmarboh by planting 150 trees. Rangbah Dong and president of Seng Samla attended the programme.

The Indian Council of Social Welfare, Meghalaya State Branch, Shillong, under the guidance of S. Tham Pdah, president, undertook a cleaning drive of the ICSW campus along with all the members of the Council on the occasion of World Environment Day.

Martin Luther Christian University, Tura Campus observed World Environment Day at Aogisimgre (under Rongram Block), Rongsang Songma (under Betasing Block), and Aokimbri (along with Tura Baptist Church). Tree saplings were planted at the three locations and colouring competition based on environment themes was also held for the children of Aogisimgre and Rongsang Songma villages.

The North Khasi Hill Social Forestry Division, Ri Bhoi District, in collaboration with the Dorbar Shnong Kdonghulu in Umroi Constituency observed World Environment Day by planting sapling in the surrounding of Kdonghulu Secondary School. Earlier, an Elocution competition was organized on the topic “Destruction of Natural Resources and its Consequences”. The competition saw participation by students representing eight schools of the area.

Observing the World Environment Day at Dorbar Hall, Nongpyndeng Village, Nongstoin, the KSU West Khasi Hills District and the KSU Nongpyndeng Unit, after a brief meeting, planted 500 saplings at Lawadong. A. Lyngkhoi, Executive Engineer, PHED, West Khasi Hills, launched the Grow Green Groups (3Gs) an independent cell of the Khasi Students’ Union West Khasi Hills under the Environmental branch, to educate, create awareness and encourage people to work towards protection and preservation of nature.
