KJP Assembly withdrawn as MLCU co-sponsor

SHILLONG: The Cabinet on Thursday has decided to withdraw the KJP Assembly as the co-sponsor of the Martin Luther Christian University.

“The KJP Assembly has taken up the issue on many occasions with both Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma and also at my level requesting to remove their name from the Martin Luther Christian University Act, 2005. We are happy that finally we have managed to disassociate their name by bringing an amendment to the act of the university,” Prof Laloo said.

He said that the proposed amendment will now be table in the Assembly in the ensuing re-assembled budget session for its approval.

Earlier, the KJP Assembly on numerous occasions had urged the State Government on numerous occasion for bringing an amendment to the act of the university by deleting the name of the KJPA. “In our last meeting with Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, we were very hopeful that the proposed amendment would be tabled in the floor of the Assembly during the budget session. But unfortunately this did not happen,” KJP Assembly general secretary Rev NS Phawa had said.

He however said that the KJPA would continue to pursue with the Government for amending the act of the University.
