SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Friday urged all the Northeastern states to jointly take up the issue of militancy in the region with the Centre.

“The issue of militancy is the complex problem of the whole region. Therefore, I would urge the various Northeastern states to join hands in seeking the Centre’s support to address the issue of militancy so as to bring lasting peace in the region,” Sangma said during Question Hour. Noting that various states of the region including Tripura, Nagaland and Manipur have got their own history of militancy, the Chief Minister claimed that the ULFA and the NDFB anti-talks faction had connections with the militant groups in Garo Hills.

“The North East militants use the local outfit for free passage to the neighbouring country. They also share the loot,” Sangma added.
