TURA: The relatives of Tochang Ch Sangma, who was arrested for his alleged links with ASAK militant group, have alleged police atrocity.

The relatives also alleged that police gave wrong information about the actual location of Sangma’s arrest.

“The information given to media regarding the place of arrest by police was wrong. The arrest was not made in Baghmara, they (police) went to his (Tochang) residence in Tura on the morning of May 24 and apprehended him,” the relatives said.

They added that as per law, Sangma should have been produced in court within 24 hours of arrest. “However, according to our lawyer he was only produced in court on May 26, 48 hours after his arrest,” they said adding that the act amounted to illegal detention. Interestingly, the relatives also claimed that Tochang’s vehicle which was seized was being used for anti-insurgency operations by police.
