JOWAI: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) has called a 12-hour bandh in the two districts of Jaintia Hills on June 12 from 5 am to 5 pm in protest against the government’s failure to set up a blood bank in the districts. “We have no option other than calling a bandh in order to protest against the government’s adamant attitude in providing the two districts with a blood bank despite it being a long pending demand of the people of the two districts,” the JSU said.

The JSU, further, alleged that the State Government had not taken any initiative in procuring a license from the Drugs & Cosmetics Department of the Union Government.

The State Health Department had, earlier, set up a blood bank in West Jaintia Hills and had even appointed a doctor and lab technicians but the blood bank failed to function for want of a license.

Press vehicles, milk vans and ambulances will be kept outside the purview of the bandh, the JSU informed.
