Shillong: The United Democratic Party (UDP) which had taken very seriously the allegations of nexus between politicians and militants of Garo Hills will continue to pursue this agenda with the new government at New Delhi. The UDP had earlier met the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee to brief them of the situation in Garo Hills. They had also met Rajnath Singh the present Home Minister, who was in the Opposition at the time.

“We are very concerned with the rapid deterioration of law and order in the Garo Hills and have a strong belief that militancy would not have thrived without tacit support of politicians. We will therefore pursue this matter with the new Government in Delhi. So long the politician-militant nexus has been going around like a Chinese whisper. This should be established beyond a reasonable doubt and only an independent CBI enquiry will bring the matter to light,” observed Jemino Mawthoh, a senior leader of the UDP.

Mawthoh further added that Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has been threatening to expose the politico-militant nexus but it has remained only a threat. “The CM should make good that threat and do something about it within a definite time frame. His dilly-dally on such a crucial matter has allowed the situation to go out of hand,” Mawthoh stated.
