Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday informed that 10 tribal militants involved in the killing of Superintendent of Police Nityananda Goswami and his PSO Ratul Nunisa had been arrested during the intensified operation launched by Assam police and paramilitary forces in Karbi Anglong hill district of the state.

The SP and his PSO were brutally tortured and killed by United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) militants of Karbi Anglong in a remote location in Hamren subdivision in the hill district on Thursday night.

The arrested militants included top three leaders of the outfit including the self-styled c-in-c, ‘deputy c-in-c’ and ‘foreign secretary’.

Gogoi who also holds the home portfolio in Assam, stated that five Cobra battalions of the CRPF were engaged for intensification of operation against the UPLA insurgents in Karbi Anglong.

Gogoi held a high-level security review meeting with the state police chief and senior officials of paramilitary forces on Tuesday morning to review the law and order scenario. He is facing flak from various quarters after killing of the SP of Hamren police district by the militants.
