SHILLONG: Forest and Environment Minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday asserted that the reasons behind the ‘disappearance’ of Government files containing details of the Border Areas Development Schemes can be known only after the investigation is over.
Replying to a query on the disappearance of the files, Tynsong informed the House that the State CID has already started its investigation into the matter and added that an FIR in this regard had been lodged at Sadar Police Station and a case had been registered under Section 380 of the IPC.
Tynsong, however, admitted that the precise contents of the files were not known.
He also said that the Government has a system in place for receiving and dispatching of files from the registry and one of the officers later found that the file has gone missing.
The Government files which have gone missing contain papers related to the alleged misappropriation of over Rs. 30 lakh meant for the Syndai Park project.
Deputy Secretary to the Forest & Environment Department, A. Nikhla, had lodged a complaint at Sadar Police Station that two files bearing No. FOR.76/2006, relating to the alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Border Area Development Programme had gone missing from the Forest & Environment Department, Secretariat Building, Shillong, between 2006 and March 19, 2014.
