SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said that the Maoist organisations across the country have access to sophisticated weapons which have emerged from the North Eastern region.

“Even in the Moaist organization whether in Jharkhand or Chattisgarh, access to sophisticated weapons is easy because of its availability in the region,” Sangma said while replying to the general discussion on the budget in the Assembly on Wednesday.

While referring to the issue about the sophisticated arms which are at the disposal of the militant organization, he said that the militant have been able to have access to this sophisticated weapons because North East has become a source of all kinds of arms and ammunitions of militants outfit operating not only in the whole region but across the country.

According to Chief Minister, arms like AK-47 series and Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) are not manufactured in Tura or any parts of Meghalaya.

“The arms emerging are coming from neighboring countries Bangladesh Myanmar and China. Therefore, this issue should be collectively tackled by the various States including the Centre,” the Chief Minister said.

Informing that he would lead a delegation of a team of Ministers to Delhi and meet all concerned ministries to renew this matter, he said that he would write to his counter parts of the seven States urging them to jointly tackle this problem.

“We need to have a political will to jointly tackle this problem,” Sangma said.
