Shillong Civil Hospital lacks basic infra: Govt

SHILLONG: The State Government has admitted that Shillong Civil Hospital is functioning without some basic amenities and patient care facilities.

In reply to a question by Donkupar Roy(UDP) in the State Assembly on Wednesday, Health Minister AL Hek said that some of the major deficiencies of the Shillong Civil Hospital were erratic electricity and water supply, non-installation of cold storage room for deep freezer and cadaver storage, non- installation of ventilators, Acid Blood Gas (ABG) estimation machine and inability to provide balance diets.

The Health Minister said that the department would procure generators to meet power requirement for 24 hours.

The department will also co-ordinate with PHE department for sufficient and effective supply of water, he said.

Besides processing the proposal for installation of cold storage room, installation of ventilators and Acid Blood Gas estimation ) machine, there is a move to enhance the existing rate of diets according to the prevailing market rates, he added.

Raising a supplementary question, Metbah Lyngdoh (UDP) wanted to know whether ultra sound and X-ray units are working in Shillong Civil Hospital.

The Health Minister said that he has not received any report in this regard.

To another supplementary question by Clifford Marak (GNC), Hek said that there were 27 specialist doctors in Civil Hospital.

He also said that there is no proposal for setting up of a blood bank in Shillong Civil Hospital.
