Multi-level mechanism in place to thwart influx: CM

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Friday informed that the government has initiated a multi-level mechanism for proper checking at the entry and exit points to tackle the problem of influx and entry of illegal immigrants.
“We are also bringing in other legislative measures to tackle these problems,” Sangma said during Question Hour in the Assembly on Friday.
He said that an Anti-Infiltration Directorate has been created as the ‘second line of defence’ to effectively deal with the problem of illegal immigration in the State. He also informed that House that district- level teams, headed by magistrates and assisted by members from the Police and Labour departments, have been constituted to tackle the problem.
“We have also set up watch and  patrol posts to ensure that the arrival, stay and movement of any foreigner does not go unnoticed. We have also tried to improve the intelligence collection from all possible quarters such as local authorities and traditional institutions,” the Chief Minister said.
In addition to these, the Government has also constituted a District Task Force to check entry of infiltrators, Sangma added.
