SHILLONG: A 72-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old physically challenged girl on June 14.
According to police, a woman lodged a complaint at Madanrting police station that on June 14 at around 1 pm, the accused Klan Marbaniang raped the 13-year-old physically challenged girl at Thynroit Umsaw village in East Khasi Hills. Later police arrested the accused.
There is a spurt in incidents of rape and molestation in parts of the state.
On Tuesday at around 5.30 pm, one Nagendar Giri (36) attempted to rape a 12-year-old girl inside his shop at 9th Mile, Baridua, Ri Bhoi. Police arrested the accused.
In yet another case on Tuesday at around 6.45 pm, one Raman Bhattacharjee (34) molested a woman at Amjok village, Byrnihat. The accused was arrested by police.
