SHILLONG: In a new twist, the two suspended junior engineers of Shella -Bholaganj Block Development Office in Sohra have now accused Block Development Officer (BDO) for forcing them to sign the bills on the work which was never taken up.
One of the Junior Engineer, P Mawkhlieng who was suspended told newsmen on Wednesday that the accusations made by the BDO against her were baseless.
“The main cause that led to her suspension was due to the fact that she disagreed to sign a document as directed by the BDO. We had refused to sign since were made to signs on bills of works which we did not have any knowledge off,” Mawkhlieng said.
The work in question is the black topping of the road to Dongwahlihuh Laitryngew -Dong Shyiap -Thangkarang and Mawmluh. The 1.28 km road was sanctioned for construction at an amount of Rs 32 lakh.
Mawkhlieng and another were suspended by the Director Community and Rural Development (C & RD) Block on June 3 pending enquiry by the Extra Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
Earlier, Shella-Bholaganj C&RD Block BDO Lyngkor Kynjing had alleged that one Collin Kharaswai and another assistant engineer (P Mawkhlieng) were allegedly involved in serious anomalies in certain projects including the construction of the Youth Cultural Centre at Madan Seng Khasi, Sohra.
The complaint also said that the accused and the subordinate engineers did not cooperate in implementation of various construction schemes and obstructed the BDO in the discharge of his duties instead.
