Centre to create 2 auxiliary police battalions for NE militants

New Delhi: Two auxiliary police battalions, with around 1,500 personnel, will be created by the Home Ministry to provide police training and impart job oriented courses to surrendered militants for their future rehabilitation in various central forces and other jobs.

The personnel of the auxiliary police battalions will not be deployed for operational duties.

The decision has been taken by Home Minister Rajnath Singh at a high-level meeting here on Thursady.

The surrendered youth upto the age of 35 years and who have studied upto class VIII would be eligible for enrolment in the two auxiliary battalions for which no academic examination will be conducted but have to complete a run of 5 kms in 24 minutes, a Home Ministry official said.

All surrendered militants would be taken from various groups of Manipur and Assam.

The posts are of constables (general duty), head constables and assistant sub-inspectors while rest of the officers will be the regular recruits. The surrendered militants would get a monthly stipend of Rs 10,000 to Rs 14,500 apart from ration money and uniform. Once they pass the Class X examination, they will be eligible for appointment in various Central paramilitary forces, the official said, adding those who would get training on various skills, they would be provided help to get jobs in their respective field.
