Indore: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Thursday said a decision regarding the Leader of the Opposition would be taken prior to the Budget Session’s commencement but she is yet to receive any missive in this regard from Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

“I am studying the ten per cent formula in the context of appointing the Leader of the Opposition and action will follow. Even new parliamentarians should devote maximum time to the House,” she said at the Press Club here.

Mahajan, who represents Indore in Parliament, said she is endeavouring to ensure that members play an increasing role in parliamentary processes.

The Parliament House boasts one the world’s finest libraries and members should try to spend more and more time there, she felt.

“From time to time, I will be seeking reports vis-a-vis this city’s development. Efforts shall be made to extend the Indore-Nagpur train to Raipur and the Bhopal-Bareilly train to Indore,” Mahajan said.

She would urge the state regime to ensure that students do not suffer vexation due to the Special Task Force’s inquiry into the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board scam. (UNI)
