HC extends Chautala’s interim bail till July 10
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday extended till July 10 the interim bail granted to former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, serving a 10-year jail term in teachers recruitment case. The court extended on medical grounds the three week long interim bail granted to 79-year-old Chautala on June 3 for carrying out the post-cremation rituals of his younger brother Pratap Singh, who died on June 1. A vacation bench of justice Pratibha Rani directed Chautala to surrender on July 11. The INLD leader’s interim bail has been extended by the court on the same terms and conditions as in the June 3 order after perusing the status report submitted by CBI and after hearing arguments by advocates R K Anand and Amit Sahni on behalf of Chautala. CBI in its status report has said that Chautala is admitted in the ICU of Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon and that he needs to undergo some tests on July 4. (PTI)
in Malik arrested, JKLF march halted
Srinagar: Police on Monday intercepted a pro-independence march by the JKLF here and arrested its chairman Yasin Malik and around a dozen supporters. Malik appeared in Maisuma locality of Srinagar city to march to the city centre Lal Chowk where he was to announce his party’s “Quit Kashmir” agitation. Police arrested Malik and around a dozen of his supporters who were taken to the nearly Kothi Bagh police station. Malik had gone underground a few days back to avoid arrest. Authorities have imposed restrictions in Lal Chowk and adjacent areas to thwart the JKLF march. (IANS)
Minor gang raped in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: A seven-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped by three men in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Monday. The incident took place Sunday when the girl went to a field to relieve herself. A boy took her to nearby thickets and raped her along with two of his friends, police said. One of the accused has been arrested and being interrogated while the two others managed to escape and efforts are on to nab them, police told IANS. Profusely bleeding, the girl was found lying in the field after which her parents informed police. A complaint has been registered and the girl was taken to a nearby government hospital, where her condition continues to be critical. (IANS)
