NONGPOH: The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council on June 23 observed its 63rd foundation day which was attended by Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council CEM Thambor Shiwat as the chief guest. The programme began with a tribute to Late Samsonsing Ingti, founder of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council.
The celebration was held at KAAC Branch Secretariat, Hamren, whereas the public function was held at Rongbong Ronghang Stadium.
Other dignitaries from Meghalaya who attended the programme included E.M A.H. Donai, president of the HNPF Jaintia Circle, Lone K. Laloo and Karbi King Harsing Ronghang. The function was presided over by Deputy Chairman of the KAAC, Surjo Rongphar.
Thambor, while addressing the gathering, congratulated the KAAC for completing the milestone of 63 years and for rendering endless services towards the betterment and welfare of the Karbi people.
He also stated that Karbi Anglong of Assam and Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya are like sisters and recalled that the Karbis and Jaintias have had the privilege of being together for ages.
“Our ancestors shared a good relationship with mutual understanding, love and respect for each other with dignity but due to the creation of the separate state, the two were separated and landed in two different states,” he said.
He expressed optimism that people of the two districts would put an end to all the hatred and misunderstanding between the two sides.
He also urged the people of both the districts to share a relationship of love, respect and dignity so as to ensure lasting peace among the two ‘ancestral brothers’.
Harsing Ronghang, the Karbi King, expressed happiness at having got the opportunity to share the dais with the guests from Jaintia Hills and stated that he looked forward to better relations in the coming future.
