SHILLONG: While expressing concern over the failure of more than 200 students to get admissions in the Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai due to unavailability of seats, the Joint Action Committee of Jaintia Organization (JACJO) has urged the State Government to set up another government college in East Jaintia Hills.
JACJO general secretary D Wanmi Laloo claimed that the number of students admitted by the college last year were 530 (BA 1st year), 857 (XI Arts), 220 (XI Science) and 119 (XI Commerce) while the number of students admitted this year being 409 (BA 1st year), 303 (XI Arts), 140(XI Science) and 43 (XI Commerce).
“This figures clearly shows that the college authorities have tried to draw of wrong picture by denying admission to the students,” he said.
The general secretary, therefore demanding the expansion of the Kiang Nangbah College, has also urged upon the State Government to increase the number of teachers working in the College for the well being of students in Jaintia Hills.
Meanwhile, he said that the Government should set up one more government college in Jaintia Hills to cater to the needs of the hundreds of students from poor families.
