Editor,
Apropos to the letter of Korbar C Hynniewta, “MBBS Entrance Test” (ST 12th June 2014), I agree with him regarding open entrance exams for MBBS. However, there is a misquotation with regard to doctors of the Civil Hospital, Shillong on their timings and duties. Randomly accusing all doctors of neglecting their duties is too sweeping a statement and this I know because I was hospitalised there for three consecutive months.
In my encounter with doctors of the Orthopaedics Department of the above hospital, I found that they were efficient and punctual. Every morning before 10:00 am, they would do their rounds with dedication. I applaud their efforts and had it not been for them, I would not be able to walk normally. So hats off to them!

Leave the Beatles alone!
Editor,
Apropos Baribor Kupar Khongwir’s letter “Ignorance is not bliss here!” (ST June 26,2014) being a huge fan of the Beatles I strongly oppose his dragging The Beatles in order to safeguard his genre of music known as ‘Death Metal’. He has no right to cite the example of a renowned band like the Beatles to defend Death Metal.
During the Beatles 15th anniversary in the 1960s at the World Premiere in London where the epoch-making music has been digitally restored by the Criterion Collections directed by Richard Lester and engineered by Sam Okell at the Abbey Road Studios, I bet Baribor was not even born so who is he to comment on the Beatles? For his information John Lennon, Paul Mc Cartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr do not act violently, satanically or growl like hungry animals in their stage performances unlike the shameless “Dying Fetus” or a metal band who has no respect for women and boldly performs a track by the name of “Pleasure of Molestation”.
As claimed by a lover of this Death Metal music (Mary Ann Suiting) I feel bad that she had to leave in the middle of the concert with her daughters because of the “Molestation Performance” on stage by the band. I do not remember ever having to leave in between an event or an exquisite performance of good music from “The Aroha Choir”,”Shillong Chamber Choir”,”Soul Mate”,”Bah Lou Majaw and friends” etc., As a matter of fact we want the concert to go on because of the passion they exude for the fans to cherish and acknowledge the best of music with meaningful lyrics. That is pure music where one can openly share with their beloved friends, family and relatives.
Baribor mentioned that he is yet to see any of the young people who were arrested refer to the ST June 19 2014 (page 10) where a graffiti on a tomb painted by Satan worshipers clearly says “Metal 4 Life”.
At the age of 72 I am really surprised as to who inspires and supports people like Baribor who do not seem to have family etiquette and apart from Death Metal knows nothing, but at this age my gut feeling tells me that these goons are being supported and encouraged by someone who loves to or is a molester himself.
Lastly as The Beatles themselves performed the track “Don’t Bother Me” kindly followers of Death Metal, “Don’t Bother Us”.

Crime watch needed
Editor,
The Shillong Times has done great service to the community by putting in the daily doses of crimes in Crime Diary. I enjoy reading Crime Diary not for its gory contents or because I am a pervert but because it paints the true picture of the sickness of our society. It is like being pummelled with a hammer on a daily basis and I am sure that what is portrayed becomes part of the collective consciousness of the reading public. It would be more helpful though if your Crime Diary is upgraded to the status of Crime Watch Diary where readers could read about the status of a particular crime – whether the crime has been solved, whether the criminals caught have been convicted or not, whether the victims have got justice, et al. I wonder if The Shillong Times can do this. However, it is high time that the public needs too keeps a tabs on crimes and criminals so that they could put pressure on concerned authorities and elected representatives to save our society or at least put a dampener on the run-away crime juggernaut that is afflicting our society and State.
