SHILLONG: Additional Chief Secretary P Barkos Oflyn Warjri has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Meghalaya.
Warjri will take over from incumbent Chief Secretary W.M.S. Pariat who is retiring on June 30.
As per an official notification issued on Friday evening, besides assuming charge as new Chief Secretary, Warjri will also function as State Vigilance Commissioner with effect from the date of taking over charge and until further orders.
Presently, Warjri is in charge of Soil & Water Conservation and Forest and Environment departments and also Chairman of Administrative Reforms among others.
He was born on February 28, 1956 to Bah Phrangsngi Oflyn Dohling and Kong Bilian Warjri and raised in Shillong.
Warjri completed his Indian School Certificate from St. Edmund’s School in 1971 and went on to graduate from St. Edmund’s College in 1976 following which he pursued International Studies at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
Upon joining the Indian Administrative Services in 1978 he was allotted the Manipur-Tripura cadre and served in Manipur in various capacities till 2008 including as Principal Secretary (Home and Planning).
He had also held the responsibility of several departments including Food & Civil Supplies, Vigilance, Taxes, Industries, Excise, Youth Affairs & Sports, Agriculture, Urban Development, etc. He was also Deputy Commissioner of the border district of Chandel in Manipur.
In between, Warjri had gone on deputation to the Government of India as Director of the North Eastern Council and as Director Vigilance with ITI, under the Ministry of Communications, in Bangalore.
He is married to internationally acclaimed pianist-composer Pauline and has two sons, Keith and Kenan.
