New Delhi: Even though Vice-President M. Hamid Ansari is on an official visit to Beijing, the Chinese government unveiled a new map showing it’s declared claims over Arunachal Pradesh and South China Sea which was later dismissed by the Union Ministry of External Affairs.
“Mere depiction in the map of a declared Indian territory does not state a correct position,” a spokesman of the MEA said during the briefing here.
India has made it very clear that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India, he reiterated.
China has a long-standing border dispute with India in the eastern sector of the Himalayas along India’s Northeast and China’s south-western boundaries.
Showing its expansionist nature, China has unveiled a new map that shows about 90 per cent of the South China Sea as part of Chinese jurisdiction, encroaching on the shipping route, territories and reefs of its neighbours like Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan.
Now, Chinese citizens can ‘fully, directly know the full map of China’, wrote the People’s Daily, a state paper.
“Readers won’t ever think again that China’s territory has primary and secondary claims,” said the editor of the map press that published it.
