Govt no to admin rule in KHADC

SHILLONG: District Council Affairs (DCA) Minister HDR Lyngdoh has ruled out any possibility of imposing administrative rule in KHADC in view of the alleged dictatorial style of functioning of the present Executive Committee (EC) under the leadership of Ardent Miller Basaiawmiot.

“The present situation does not warrant imposition of the ‘administrative rule’ in the Council,” Lyngdoh, who is also an MDC, told newsmen here on Tuesday.

When asked if it was mandatory for the Executive Committee to seek the views of Hima before tabling any Bill on the floor of the House, the DCA Minister refused to comment on it.

KHADC session ends: Meanwhile, KHADC chairperson Teilinia Thangkhiew adjourned the Council Session sine die on Tuesday.

Earlier, Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Allotment, Occupation or Use for Setting apart of Land), Regulation Bill, 2014, Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Appointment and Succession of Sirdar and Heaman of Jyrngam Sirdarship) (Second Amendment Bill), 2014, Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Nomination and Election of the Syiem, Deputy Syiem, Myntri, Basan and Rangbah Shnong of Bhowal Syiemship) First Amendent Bill, 2014 among others were passed during the session.

The Council Summer Session, which began on June 24, debated on several issues pertaining to illegal smuggling of timber from Council forest areas, financial crisis prevailing in the Council etc.
