SHILLONG: The East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police has clarified that the district police had seized six coal-laden trucks which were running in violation of prohibitory orders passed by the District Magistrate in wake of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) ban on coal mining and transportation in the State.

According to the SP, a total of five cases have been registered under appropriate sections of law.

He also denied reports that police officers were being threatened by local politicians of transfers to some remote parts of Garo Hills if coal carrying trucks at night were seized.

Terming the allegations as baseless, the district police chief said that none of the police officer has claimed that they are being threatened.

“All the police officer are performing their duties in true spirit which is how five cases have been detected and registered and six coal-laden trucks have been seized,” he said.
