Disbursement of salary for SSA teachers

NONGSTOIN: The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers of West & South West Khasi Hills has come forward with a decision to demand the immediate release of their three-month pending salaries and enhancement of the same within July 14 failing which, they have threatened to go on an hunger strike.

The demand was made on Wednesday when they found out that the SSA teachers in other district already received their salary till June but the salary of the SSA teachers in West & South West Khasi Hills was delayed since April, 2014.

Talking to pressmen here in Nongstoin after the meeting, Meghalaya S.S.A School Association president HS Myrthong, asked the State Government through the education department to pay their pending salary within July 14 while threatening to go on a hunger strike on July 15.

HS Marthong expressed his sadness to the education department silence about their salary as the students were paying the price for the education department delay. As long as the delay persists, the teachers would move forward to agitate. In the end the students are at a loss at this crucial juncture.

“We strongly demand the government to release the pending salaries of the teachers within this coming Monday (July 14),” Myrthong said while expressing the plight of the teachers stating that the delay in the release of salary for the last three months has affected teachers greatly.

He also mention that it is not the first time that the education department delayed the salaries of the SSA teachers and he remind that last year because the state government delayed their salary for 5 months the MSSASA threatened to close down all the SSA schools in 11 district.

Myrthong urged all the SSA teachers to take part in the hunger strike which will commence on July 15 at 10 AM at the office of the Sub Division school Education Officer Nongstoin if the MSSASA did not meet their demand, he also urged to all the SSA teacher in West & South West Khasi Hills to come forward and stand together to fight for their own rights.
