SHILLONG: In an attempt to preserve the previous work under the Jingkieng Ksiar Production (JKP), prominent Khasi singer and composer, Rana Kharkongor along with five others have formed the Jigkieng Ksiar Fan Club (JKFC).

“The JKFC is seeking to establish itself primarily in promoting and safeguarding the materials of the production,” said Kharkongor who is also the founder of the JKP told newsmen here on Friday.

He said that it was really sad to see that the works of many of the music legends were never preserved after their death. “I would not like to see the various works under the productions die after my death,” the JKP founder said.

According to him, he had the option of asking his children to continue to preserve the works of the production.

“But I have reservation to give this responsibility to my children since I have to be sure that they have keen interest for preservation of the work of the production,” Kharkongor said.

He said that after due consideration with his close associate, they unanimously arrived to a conclusion that the best possible option to preserve the musical works in the past many years of the production is through a fan club.

“We finally formed the fan club on June 5,” JKP founder said.

He said that the fan club would be responsible to pass on the musical works produce under the JKP to the future generations. “I would want to see many of the young people get an opportunity to listen and access to the various Khasi musical album of the production,” Kharkongor said.

He said that the fan club also aims to streamline the availability of the JKP made so far and to reach out to the general public including those in the far flung areas and also to the Khasi community living outside the State and in other parts of the world who are interested in such musical productions by the Jinkieng Ksiar.

“So far, they produced more than 28 Khasi music albums during the period of over three decades. The concept of different compositions of Khasi musical albums by the production is to reach to all age-groups in the community and create interest and respect of our own Khasi songs,” JKP founder said.

Meanwhile, he said that the first Khasi audio album was released on December 6, 1982 and then followed by the Jingkieng Ksiar Volume 1 and Volume 2 and Volume 3 which were released in 1983.

“We recorded in Kolkata for the album Best of Jingkieng Ksiar with the support of the proffessional musicians from Kolkata itself,” Kharkongor said.

In 1986, he informed that the production its first Khasi film title Balei Ia Nga.

“We also produced a movie tilted Adona (a musical love story) which is socially relevant as it touches issues of family bonding, friendship and love,” JKP founder said.

Kharkongor informed that they are planning to launch new music talent in their future production. Meanwhile, the JKP founder said that those who are willing to enroll as members of the fan club would have the membership form from Riche’s collection opposite Mawngap Taxi Stand. “The membership fee is Rs 100,” Kharkongor said.
