The Union Government has approved the construction of the shopping mall at an estimated budget of Rs 23 crore. The Government has heaved a sigh of relief after t he Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) and the East Khasi Hills district administration demolished several shops in Polo Market in accordance with the High Court of Meghalaya verdict passed in favour of the State Government on April 24 last paving way for the construction of the new shopping mall.

Earlier, finding it tough to evict the place, the government was mulling to shift the proposed shopping mall to Mawdiandiang.
