State to get 36 new police stations shortly

SHILLONG: The State government has proposed to set up 36 new police stations in the State.

Informing this, on Monday, the Chief Minister added that his government has also initiated a number of measures to strengthen the police administration so that the law of the land is upheld among all sections of the people, while addressing the guests in the inauguration programme of a new police station in Ampati.

The new police station building was constructed at a cost of Rs 42.23 lakh and was completed within 18 months.

Brooding on the current state of judiciary system in the State, Sangma said that the trial and disposal of cases were delayed with lengthy investigation but no eventually conviction.

“Government has initiated measures for complete separation of judiciary from the executive in all the districts to ensure quick delivery of justice to people,” he said.

He also regretted the shortage of manpower in the police stations and outposts.

“There is a need for proper planning and the government has to take decisions which require strong political will,” he said referring to the new and transparent system of recruitment.

The Additional DGP, Law & Order, YC Modi, IGP, Western Range, H. Nongpluh, Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, Superintendent of Police, R. Muthu, other district officials and other officials presided on the occasion.
