TURA: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Kharkutta Regional Unit in North Garo Hills recently on July 4 submitted a proposal to the Chief Engineer of MePDCL (Distribution) for the upgradation of Kharkutta MePDCL sub-station into a civil sub-station.

In its proposal the GSU stated that the presently under staffed Kharkutta sub-station under the jurisdiction of Medipathar MeECL was facing a lot of hardships not only in administration but also in supervision adding that the difficulty was not because of the distance but rather because of the vast area of coverage comprising of villages which included Kharkutta, Rajasimla, Baksalpara, Chotcholja, Megam Akong, Adokgre etc.

Pointing out that the number of villages under 37-Kharkutta Constituency comes to around 180 the GSU was of the view that revenue would surely increased if the demands of the public are met in the near future. It further stated that the upgradation of the present ) Kharkutta sub -station to a full fledged Sub-Division would be the final solution as land is also freely available at the present location to meet any eventuality.

“Kharkutta and its neighbouring villages are developing. With the upgradation of the sub-station to sub-division along with availability of power connection there will be overall development in Kharkutta Constituency,” the union said and appealed to the concerned authority to take immediate steps for the creation of an MeECL Subdivision.
