SHILLONG: KHADC Executive Member in charge Mining and Geology Donkupar Sumer has ruled out misappropriation of funds in the implementation of the Wahkaji-Mawthabah road, funded by the UCIL.
“There is no reason to doubt the implementation of this road project. The UCIL is releasing funds for the project after assessment of the work done,” Sumer said while talking to newsmen here on Tuesday.
Earlier, the general secretary of Kylleng-Pyndeng Sohiong Uranium Land Owners’ Association, Heasdiengland Lyngdoh Sangriang had alleged that the undue delay in completion of the road project might have been due to scam since the contractors had not completed the work on time.
“A committee consisting of the AMD Senior Engineer (Civil), Surveyor AMD, Chief Superintendent (Civil), Additional Superintendent (Geo), DGM (UCIL) and KHADC Project Engineer had visited the site on April 30 and May 1, 2014. The committee has gone through the details about the work done till date,” Sumer said.
He also informed that the original estimates of the Wahkaji-Mawthabah road was Rs 19.88 crore. “But now it is found that the same cannot be completed with the said amount,” he said. “Accordingly, the UCIL had directed the Engineer to prepare a fresh estimate which comes to around Rs 20.31 crore to complete the road project with no further escalation. Therefore, the total cost for the road projects comes to Rs 38.88 crore,” the EM said.
“The Wahkaji-Mawthabah road is expected to be completed within December this year,” he said adding that “Out of total 13 km, 6.5 km of the road has been completed.
“So far Rs 31.29 crore has been paid to the contractor,” he said, adding that the rest of the amount would be paid after the completion of the road project.
