NONGSTOIN: Over 19 years after it was rolled out in Meghalaya, the Centre’s midday meal scheme has failed to be implemented smoothly in West Khasi Hills.

The matter came to light after the Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP) Mawthadraishan found out that the Govt. LP School, Pariong Nongdom had confirmed that they were not receiving midday meals in the school over the past couple of years.

During a recent inspection carried out by the FKJGP, following a complaint concerning the serious irregularities of the education department to provide midday meal in the school, the FKJGP found that the LP School Pariong Nongdom had not received midday meals in the year 2013-14.

“In the past few years the midday meal is being distributed smoothly, but last year, 2013 the school received the meal only once and surprisingly, in 2014 the school did not receive any midday meal at all” a teacher of the school said.

Desstarbor Kharsyntiew, FKJGP President has expressed concern over the failure of the education department to implement the midday meal scheme in certain schools.

The FKJGP, demanding the Education department to treat all the schools fairly, has assured that the School authorities will follow up the matter in order to find out the reason behind the department’s failure in distributing the midday meal in LP School Pariong Nongdom.
