Drugs seized in Mizoram, one arrested

SHILLONG: Acting on a tip-off, a special joint operation was  launched  by BSF Intelligence Wing, Lunglei and CID (SB) of Mizoram Police in general area of Bethlehem Veng, Aizawl on Tuesday and apprehended one Myanmar  national, Lalzawmliana (52) along with 53 packets of Meth Amphetamine “WY” Tablet whose value at the border area is approximately  from Rs. 21.37  to Rs. 37.41 Lakhs and at International market value approximately from Rs. 1.60 to Rs. 2.67 Crore.

BSF Spokesperson Satish Budakoti, Deputy Inspector General, Frontier Headquarter BSF Mizoram & Cachar  intimated that Lalzawmliana had purchased the drugs from Manipur – Myanmar border town Tamu in Myanmar and brought it to Tahan and further to Mizoram- Myanmar border town Tiao.

Lalzawmliana was a driver in Presbyterian Synod in Myanmar and he revealed that for medical treatment of his ailing mother, he needed a handsome amount and thus undertooke this illegal trade.

“WY” tablet is one of the name of Meth Amphetamine tablet. It is byproduct of precursor medicines like normal common cold and chest decongestant tablet viz, Pseudoephedrine tablets, manufactured in India.
