Dheera Bhowmick waxes eloquent on what she considers the best place on earth
NESTLED AMONG the hills and lush green pine trees, is my chirpy, cheerful and charming city – the choicest one. Beautiful people with magnanimous hearts live here. You lean and look out from the window of any of the houses in the city a whiff of cool ,fresh air will greet you and a world of wondrous beauty unfold before you.
Take a walk round the city and you will find the entire city-space bristling with life-soft, sober, gentle folks living and loving life, sharing life’s joyous moments keeping at bay sadness and sorrow. Life is vibrant and colourful here. Children walk down the streets confident and carefree ,stunning youngsters seem to make fashion statements with their trendy attires ,lovely ladies go about their work wearing winning smiles ,old men look happy and contented honoured and cared for in their much valued homes. There is gladness in every heart; there is joy, colour, health and happiness in my city.
Concerts are a big craze here, fairs little known and there is fulsome appreciation for good music and delicious food. Simplicity comes naturally and’ sorry’ and ‘thank you’ are the first lessons learnt in courtesy.
It is king’s weather all round the year. It is always pleasant and cool.
Here spring is a riot of colours, summers you keep off sweltering heat, autumn is festive and cold winters is for you to sit warm and cosy round the fireplace with friends and family and share a tale.
The city is a photographer’s delight. Every sight is for the lens.
You have fog kissing the hilltops rarely coming close or entering your homes. You see it from a distance.
Innumerable lights in countless homes light up the plateau under the night sky and if you are on a descent to the place your eyes feast on the evening extravaganza.
You cannot but love the city for all that it is-here blossoms all that is good and true – everlasting friendship with the people and the hills, amazing honesty and yes, if you are back in the city after a stint abroad, most certainly you will experience the joys of coming back to the security of strong bonds that makes life so complete.
You take longer strides here with steps sure for there is no fear of tripping and falling. There will always be someone to hold you for you are not to be left alone in case of a bad fall.
Faith in every believing heart, young and old, and wondrous zeal in every step born of this faith, are the precious gifts of the people of my city.
Houses sparkling clean and aesthetically designed with vast front flower gardens, verses from the holy scriptures adorning the walls of every home in the city makes it preciously unique.
Life shines and sparkles here. People love good things of life not just a little.
Latest cars are driven out of showrooms just on arrival and hit the ready roads before it does in any other parts of the country.
The rich and abundant life here, the goodness of the charming city colours your thoughts and binds you to the place. You cannot stray too far. The city catches up with you wherever you go.
From full throated hymns spiralling heavenward to gentle country music from pop to heavy metal the young here are adept at it all and yes they have the world as their stage.

The city sleeps early at the end of an honest and happy day. After all, life has been vastly good.
