Shalom M’laya holds peace meet at Damas

TURA: With an aim to promote Unity and brotherhood and spread the message of peace, Shalom Meghalaya held a public meeting at Damas in North Garo Hills in which people from all walks of life including religious leaders participated.
The Catholic Church together with different Church bodies and UCPF have decided to initiate an action based Peace Movement across the region, named Shalom Meghalaya. The Bishop of Tura who first envisaged this vision for Peace has shared it to the people from bottom to the top levels appealing all walks of people to create a Peaceful Meghalaya.
To carry out the entire programme, a central core committee was formed at Tura on 27th July. Following which, every district has been entrusted with the responsibility of forming District level Peace Committees to take the programme forward to bring about lasting peace and normalcy in Garo Hills.
For this purpose, North Garo Hills District convened a meeting of all the Parish Priests, various Church leaders, UCPF Leaders and leaders of pious associations on 9th July at Sacred Parish, Damas. Following a lengthy discussion the meeting unanimously resolved to work for peace in the region. The peace initiative movement, Shalom Meghalaya, was happily accepted by everyone and to meet the success of its objectives, a District Level Peace Committee was formed.
The officer bearers of the district committee are Rev Fr. Biju Paul as the District Coordinator, Rev Fr. Zackeus  B Sangma as the Asst.  Coordinator, Rev Fr. Cyril Jose as the Secretary, Mr. David N Sangma as the Jt Secretary, Mr J.M Sangma as the Finance Secretary, Mr V.J Abraham as the Legal Advisor, Pastor K D Momin as Media Secretary, and Mrs. Jacintha Dokongsi, the Sisters, Parish Priests, UCPF Office bearers as the ex Officio Executive Members. Mr Dolly K Sangma is also nominated as the Executive Member for His contribution to Peace during 2011 ethnic Conflict.
The Committee will chalk out different programs, Strategies to display Love & Forgiveness through different medium of expressions.  “The Lost son of the State is to be sought and brought back Home. We need our younger brothers and sisters of various militant organizations to return and join the mainstream. We need you, we love you”. This appeal was made by District level gathering.
