Manipuri girl found dead in Delhi

New Delhi: A 26-year-old Manipuri girl was found dead in her room in Mochi village in South Delhi’s South Campus area here on Wednesday afternoon, police said. The deceased, identified as Rose Gangmei was living on the second floor of House No 73 in a two-room set since the last seven to eight months. She had been working as a receptionist at a beauty parlour in Punjabi Bagh area in West Delhi. According to the police, the incident came to light around 1 PM when her neighbour, Pannam opened the door and found her lying lifeless on a mat in her room. “A PCR call was made and police team rushed to the spot which found that there were no signs of any scuffle or anything. There were no injuries on her body and she even had her headphones on,” said a police official. Although police does not suspect any foul play, the body has been sent for postmortem to ascertain the cause of death. An investigation under section 174 CrPc has been initiated in this case, police said. (PTI)

Mizo Armed Police constable has joined HPC(D): Police

Aizawl: Constable H C Malsawmkima of the Mizoram Armed Police First Battalion, who decamped with service weapons has reportedly joined the Manipur-based Hmar insurgent group, senior police officers on Wednesday said. Police said Malsawmkima was met by one militant belonging to the Hmar People’s Convention (Democrats) in Manipur after which he was taken to the outfit’s camp. He was known to have connection with the HPC(D) rebels before he joined the state Police, a senior officer said. Malsawmkima, while on a sentry on Saturday night decamped with an Insas rifle issued to him, another AK-47 assault rifle and 150 rounds of ammunition from Mizoram-Manipur border Sakawrdai Police Outpost. He surreptitiously entered Manipur with a stolen motorcycle via Zilthawchhuah and could not be nabbed even as a massive combing operation was launched. (PTI)

Japanese Encephalitis: Gogoi directs CS to monitor situation

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday directed state Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla to ensure that the health department gears up the vaccination drive following the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis which has claimed 15 lives so far this year. Gogoi also directed the Chief Secretary to ensure regular flow of medicine to hospitals and health centres and monitor the situation closely, a government spokesman said. The Chief Minister also directed Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Sanjeeva Kumar to step up the vaccination drive and take all possible preventive measures to check Japanese Encephalitis. Kumar apprised the Chief Minister that the situation was not alarming and the incidence of Japanese Encephalitis is less than last year. The Principal Secretary told the Chief Minister that truckloads of medicine are being sent to different parts of the state daily and wherever there is shortage, it would be replenished in the next few days. The Chief Minister directed the Principal Secretary to speed up the process of setting up the Assam State Health Corporation to make the procurement of medicine hassle-free. Kumar informed the Chief Minister that Public Health Engineering Department’s initiative to convert all shallow tube wells into deep tube wells would help the efforts of the health department to contain water-borne diseases. Nagaland CM congratulates new Governor Acharya

Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang has congratulated Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya on being appointed as the Governor of the state. The chief minister while welcoming the new Governor expressed confidence that Acharya, who is a veteran politician, will guide the State in the right direction, according to a statement released on Wednesday. Zeliang further assured his full cooperation, support and wished the new Governor an enriching and successful tenure. Acharya was appointed as the new Governor on Monday. (PTI)
