Peace restored between Hmar, Pnar people in Assam

SHILLONG: A delegation of North East Indigenous People Federation (NEIPF) paid a visit to the village of Bongaikhal along the Assam-Manipur border to have a dialogue with the Hmar people to have amicable relation with the Pnar people residing at Bongaikhal.

NEIPF in a statement issued here on Thursday said seven years ago, the Hmar people who had come from Manipur had captured the forest which was occupied by the Pnar people in Bongaikhal village of Assam.

NEIPT under the leadership of Marshall Biam as chairman met T. Tangkhung president of the Hmar National Union (HNU) and other members to address the problem.

In the meeting held on July 15 in Bongaikhal Village, both the tribes decided to maintain peace.

The headman of Bongaikhal village, Koios Suchen, expressed happiness over restoration of peace in the area.
