SHILLONG: Nongthymmai MLA Jemino Mawthoh on Thursday termed Shillong as the best school education hub in the country.
Speaking at a felicitation programme, Mawthoh said Shillong is also popular as Education Hub of the North Eastern Region, as thousands of students from the region come to Shillong to get admission in the various schools and colleges.
The felicitation programme was organized by the Seng Samla Dong Ktieh, Nongrah, Shillong at Maw Shyieng School.
According to Mawthoh, the people of Shillong have been very fortunate to inherit the legacy of good education from the foreign missionaries and the students should take advantage of this opportunity
He said while the students of the State are trying to study outside the state for higher education, people from other states want to send their children for schooling to Shillong.
He was also surprised to know from one of the families in Chennai who told him get admission for their children in one of the schools in Shillong. Mawthoh said the students should capitalize on this asset of the State for their bright future.
“Education should make people good and productive citizens”, Mawthoh said, adding that the students must study hard, as education would provide them ample opportunities for the future life.
He lauded the students of Meghalaya, who are studying outside the state for passing their examinations with flying colour to their credit.
The MLA exhorted the students not to waste the investment made by their parents in their education.
“By 2020, India will be known as the youngest country in the world and by 2022, 50 million jobs will be available and the students of Meghalaya should full prepare themselves to grab this opportunity,” he said.
There were five students of HSSLC and seven students of SSLC who were honoured by Seng Samla Dongktieh Nongrah on the occasion.
The achievers certificates was given to Solomon Kharir- Artist , Lajong footballer- Redimi Talang and Youth Promotor- Alan Sohtun.
