SHILLONG: The all Kharkutta Village Employment Council has rued that they were facing tremendous hardships in the MGNREGS due to non-payment of daily wages of the labourers.
In a memorandum submitted to the Meghalaya Governor Dr KK Paul, Secretary of the Council Gloriash Momin said that since August 2013, even after the labourers completed their works, the payments were not completed till July 2014 whereas as per the guidelines, the payments are to be cleared within 15 working days after the completion of the work.
He also said that during the month of September-October 2013, wages of two days were deducted on the pretext of building an MNREGS office even as he alleged that there is no such building in existence under the jurisdiction of the council till today.
The council has asked the Governor to expedite the pending payments and works order besides asking for expelling of the officials if they are involved in corruption.
