SHILLONG: The process to rent out the commercial block of the new Meghalaya House at Kolkata has already begun, an official informed on Friday.
The official said that the Meghalaya General Administration Department has received several commercial bids in response to the tender offer for allotment of the commercial block.
“We will soon place these bids before the tender committee to decide allotment of shops at the commercial block,” the official added.
The Kolkata Meghalaya House has three blocks of which Block-I, which includes a basement plus ground plus 5 structure, comprises the commercial block with a total built up area of 80,950 sq. ft.
Though the construction of the Kolkata Meghalaya House was completed almost a year ago, there was delay in inaugurating the project due to incomplete works related to sewerage, which were recently completed. The sewerage was built at a cost of over Rs. 20 lakh.
The furnishing works are, however, yet to be completed. “We are finalizing the matters including the cost related to furnishing of the Meghalaya House,” the official added.
Though the initial cost of the Meghalaya House project was Rs. 22 crore, the cost escalated to Rs. 49.2 crore over the years.
It was on August 5 last year that the PWD formally took over the newly-constructed Meghalaya House from Asian Housing and Infrastructure Pvt. Limited.
