6-yr-old boy kidnapped, released; 1 held

JOWAI: Jowai police on Friday arrested one Chemi Phawa (30) of Lumpyrtuh Mihmyntdu in connection with the kidnapping of a six-year-old boy from his residence at Mihmyntdu village, West Jaintia Hills.

Two more persons were picked up on Saturday for interrogation.

The boy, who was kidnapped for ransom by masked miscreants on Thursday evening, was abandoned on the National Highway the next night.

The boy’s father, Charles Pakma lodged a complaint at Jowai PS that his son, Emi Lyngdoh was kidnapped by unknown miscreants on Thursday evening.

The boy’s mother later received a phone call demanding Rs. 10 lakh for her son’s safe release.

After the complaint was lodged, the Jowai Police swung into action to trace the boy. However, the kidnappers abandoned the boy on the National Highway NH-44 near Puriang village, East Khasi Hills on Friday at around 9-30pm.

The Mawryngkneng Police later handed the boy over to Jowai Police and subsequently the boy was reunited with his parents.
