Police vehicle kills three in Tripura

Agartala: Three morning walkers were killed Saturday and two critically injured after being run over by a police vehicle in Tripura, police said here.

After the incident in Udaipur, 55 km from here, an irate mob attacked the Radhakishore Pur police station forcing the security forces to resort to a cane-charge and fire teargas shells, injuring 10 people.

“A speeding police jeep ran into a small group of morning walkers, killing three people, including two women on the spot and critically injuring two. The injured were shifted to a government-run medical college and hospital here,” a police officer said.

He said: “Immediately after the incident, a mob attacked the Radhakishore Pur police station. Police resorted to cane-charge and busted tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. Ten people were injured in police cane-charge and shifted to a hospital.”

District Magistrate and Gomati district Collector Sonal Goel imposed prohibitory orders across Udaipur to keep normalcy.

Senior police official have rushed to the troubled areas and additional security forces have been deployed to foil fresh trouble. (IANS)
