Rangbah Shnong demands release of arrested youths

SHILLONG: The Rangbah Shnong, Nongsder, on Saturday, demanded the immediate release of five people who were arrested for assaulting one Emmanuel Marak, a resident of Nongsdier village, Ri Bhoi district.

The Rangbah Shnong, Nongsder, in a public meeting at Nongsder, termed the allegations, on the five arrested, as baseless and criticized the police for booking the accused with different sections of IPC without proper investigation.

On June 19, some minors with dendrite, who were apprehended by the five accused, had revealed that they had received the dendrite from Marak.

Based on this allegation, the five persons, including the headman, had allegedly assaulted Marak, who was later shifted to Civil Hospital Shillong, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The arrested persons have been identified as Brik Mukhim, headman of the village, Gesterfield Langstieh, John Nongrum, Iengskhem Shylla and Shemphang Lyngdoh.

Rangbah Shnong also, on Saturday, slammed the CSWO leader Agnes Kharshhing’s interference into the matter.
